Christmas Bag Packing at Sainsbury’s Lordshill –Friday 23rd Dec 10am-2pm

Can you spare us a couple of hours or more to help us raise money for our Scout Group?

THANK YOU FOR VOLUNTEERING!  - Hope to  SEE YOU THERE ON FRIDAY.  Please wear uniform if you have one –We need to be seen to be Scouts.  Please can adults help too.   Remember to pack frozen, and chilled foods separately.  Crushable stuff near top of bags.  Not too much weight in each bag –Double the bags if it might burst especially if it contains glass bottles!

Sainsburys have kindly allowed North Baddesley Scout Group to do a bag packing session at their Lordshill Supermarket as a Christmas Fundraiser on Friday 23rd December from 10am to 2pmf

This is the first time that we have been offered this superb opportunity for raising much needed funds. Our policy at North Baddesley Scouts is to run Scouting Activities at a price which makes them available to all and so also keep subscriptions low.  We are fortunate in owning our own HQ and renting it out to reduce our overheads.  However there are some projects we would like to undertake to redevelop and modernise some of the rooms to make them more useful to us and more attractive for rental.  We need to raise around £15,000 to £20,000 to achieve this. This fundraising would be a good early step.

If you can spare us a couple of hours then please return the form below to me by Friday 16th December or email me on gsl@nbscouts.org.uk.

We are looking for up to a dozen pairs of young volunteers in beaver/cub/scout uniform who can help pack customers bags, carry them to vehicles and collect donations. Ideally each pair will be supported by an adult volunteer (Beavers would clearly need strong support but are still most welcome).   Although this is a Friday lunchtime it is just before Christmas when children have broken up from school and many parents may also be available to help.

The most up to date details will be here on our website as we get closer to the date but the initial plan is to meet outside Sainsbury’s Lordshill,SO16 8HY at 10am (or by the checkouts if you are arriving later).  We will issue further instructions beforehand about how to pack bags etc.

Southampton Sky Ride –Sunday 14th August 2011

    Hi All

Tomorrow’s Southampton Sky Ride is a superb free leisure cycling opportunity for all ages and abilities. You can ride your bike through Southampton’s streets without a car in sight anytime between 10am and 4pm. It’s free and easy to register and anyone can get involved,no matter how wobbly you might be on a bike. Last year more than 10,000 people took part. The route is entirely open and optional,so you can come and go as you please and ride for as long as you choose. You can ride past Southampton’s landmarks and there is plenty of entertainment planned throughout the day.

More Info at http://www.goskyride.com/Southampton. If you’d like to do it please register on the skyride website.

If you’d also like to join up with others from our Scout Group we will meet at Baddesley Scout HQ at 9:30 for a steady trip down there. There is a suitable route (off road through Rownhams Woods and Chilworth to Bassett Sports Centre then over Southampton Common) missing out most busy roads. Or you could meet us there. Whilst there we will base ourselves in the park just outside Southampton Central Library (by the Civic Centre) for a picnic/lunch as weather permits and set off back from there at 3pm for North Baddesley.

Leaders will not be taking responsibility for young folk. Please treat this as a family event – parents will be in charge of their own kids. We do however ask that if you are cycling with us you wear a cycle helmet.

    Hope to see you there.

Ringwood Drive’s Royal Wedding Picnic –Thank you for your donation

Thank you to the organisers and all who came to Ringwood Drive’s Royal Wedding Picnic in Mountbatten Park yesterday for your kind donations to our Scout Group. We received £35.20 from the bucket collection.  I hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.  When’s the next one?

    John Evans (Group Scout Leader)

    Cub Leader(s) Needed Urgently

Ian and Anneli have done a fantastic job as Leader and Assistant Leader for several years now and along with their enthusiastic and committed team have developed our Cub Pack into one of the best in the area. However both Ian and Anneli have given us notice that they will be stepping down from their Leader positions at the end of next term in July 2011.

Ian and Anneli will still be around to help us with various events and provide a good handover but work and family commitments make it difficult for them to continue in their present roles. They are also now pursuing archery qualifications with a view to improving the archery opportunities that we can offer our young members.

The rest of the cub leadership team are happy to continue assisting as now.  It is also with great pleasure that we have received applications from our 2 young leaders,Graham and James to become Assistant Leaders as they reach their 18th Birthdays soon (Happy Birthdays! ) :)

However we do need 1 or 2 more adults to volunteer as Cub Leaders (it is a job that can be shared) in order to guarantee the survival and the continued development of our cub pack.  We have already asked widely amongst other leaders both at our group and at nearby groups but have not yet found a volunteer.

Please do give this some serious thought!  It is a very rewarding way of volunteering and is lots of fun. We can and do provide all the training you need.  It can even look good on your CV too!

If you are able to help us or know somebody who can then please do get in touch with John Evans (our Group Scout Leader) on  023 8073 1205 or by email.so that we can discuss further.
