Beavers

Age group: 6-8 years old
Meet: Tuesday evening 5:45 – 7pm

The Beaver section first came about in the late 1980’s in response to more and more younger people wanting to join Scouting below the age of Cubs.  For years they were seen as a joke section by other leaders but not any more!  Beavers are the fastest growing section locally and the demand for places remains high.  It is an excellent introduction to Scouting for 6 to 8 year olds through learning teamwork and sharing experiences together.

Beavers belong to the Beaver Colony, which is split into “lodges”.  Learning is developed on the basis of having fun and making friends.

There are six challenge badges which the programme is tailored towards completing; these are Outdoor, Adventure, Skills, Teamwork, My World and Personal.  These encourage the Beavers to challenge themselves whilst experiencing a variety of activities and adventures along the way

In addition there are over 20 activity badges that can be achieved either individually or collectively as part of the programme.  These cover wide areas of interest such as Sports, Hobbies, Communication, Global Issues and Fitness.  On completion of all six challenges plus a minimum of four activity badges, the Beavers will achieve the top award in the section – the Chief Scout’s Bronze Award.

Beaver leaders

All of our leaders are trained volunteers, working to make sure Scouting is safe, inclusive and accessible. Some lead the Colony week in and week out. Others visit occasionally to help run a session or drop in to share their skills. No matter how much time you have to spare, find out about volunteering on your own terms.
